FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood softball and head coach
Dr. Megan Brown have announced the final freshman signee to the
recruiting class of 2023. Berkeley Whitten rounds out a group of seven new faces set to join the Lancers in the fall.
Whitten comes to Farmville from Providence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she excelled on the softball field. She was a 1
st Team 4A All-State selection during her junior season where she averaged an outstanding .408 BA, 42 RBIs, and 16 home runs.
"We are very excited to welcome Berkeley to the Longwood softball family," said Dr. Brown. "She is an exceptional young lady that embodies all of the characteristics of a Longwood woman. We look forward to having her on campus next fall."
Outside of the softball diamond, Whitten is also a talented violinist. She was a four-year member of the orchestras at her high school, playing in both the symphonic and chamber orchestras. In addition, she has run two half-marathons and is currently training for her third.
"I chose Longwood because of the great conference and competition that I would be playing for softball," said Whitten. "I wanted a school to be close to home, while also being competitive with softball as well. Longwood also offers my major that I want to pursue, and the small classes and hands on learning that I would be receiving is exactly what I want. The atmosphere of Longwood is also fantastic with a great student body and great sports teams."
