Big South Men's Basketball Tournament Official Seeding Announced

Lancers Locked In Second Seed, Play Friday, March 3 in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The seedings and pairings for next week's Hercules Tires Big South Conference Men's Basketball Championship at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C., have been determined following the conclusion of the conference's regular-season schedule this evening.  The top six teams earned byes into the quarterfinals.
 
Regular-season champion UNC Asheville (16-2) is the No. 1 seed –- its first No. 1 seed in the Big South Tournament since 2017-18 and sixth time overall, and has secured the Big South's automatic bid to the NIT should the Bulldogs not win the tournament.  Longwood and Radford tied for second in the standings at 12-6.  The teams split the season series, and the tiebreaker was eventually Longwood's 2-0 record vs. High Point, compared to Radford's 1-1 mark vs. HPU.  The Lancers enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed and the defending conference champion, with the Highlanders slotted at No. 3.
 
USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb and Winthrop tied for fourth in the final standings at 10-8.  Upstate picked up the No. 4 seed based on its 3-1 record vs. GWU and Winthrop.  The Runnin' Bulldogs notched the No. 5 seed for its 2-2 record against Winthrop and Upstate, with Winthrop (1-3 vs. Upstate/GWU) landing the No. 6 seed and final bye into the quarterfinals.
 
Campbell (8-10) finished seventh in Big South games this season and is the No. 7 seed, followed by High Point (6-12) at No. 8, Charleston Southern (5-13) at No. 9 and Presbyterian (1-17) at No. 10.  The four squads will open the tournament in the first round on Wednesday, March 1.  No. 8 High Point will face No. 9 seed Charleston Southern at 6:00pm, followed by No. 7 Campbell vs. No. 10 Presbyterian at 8:00pm
 
The winners of Wednesday's first round contests will advance to the Quarterfinals on Friday, March 3.  No. 1 UNC Asheville will play the winner of High Point/Charleston Southern at 12:00pm, followed by No. 4 USC Upstate vs. No. 5 Gardner-Webb at 2:00pm.  No. 2 Longwood meets the winner of Campbell/Presbyterian at 6:00pm, with No. 3 Radford vs. No. 6 Winthrop concluding quarterfinal day at 8:00pm.  The semifinals will be Saturday, March 4 at 12:00pm and 2:00pm, with the Championship game on Sunday, March 5 scheduled for 1:00pm.
 
The 2023 Hercules Tires Big South Men's Basketball Championship will be televised on ESPN+ Wednesday-through-Saturday, while Sunday's Championship game will air live on ESPN2.  The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.  The Conference Championship schedule is below, and tickets are available at www.longwoodtickets.com.
