SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Coming off their best performance in the Big South Championship in team history, Longwood cross country closed the fall season strong at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday morning and afternoon.
Priscilla Keller ran the fifth-fastest 6K in the team's history to add her name to the record books again after an impressive debut season. That helped the Lancers finish ahead of the hosts and fellow Big South foe, USC Upstate.
Meanwhile,
Jordyn Dillavou and
Clinton Clancy continued their strong debuts, with both running their way into the record books. Dillavou had the seventh-fastest 10K in team history, and Clancy had the ninth-fastest.
NOTBALE RESULTS:
Both teams had multiple runners set personal bests, with four of the six women's runners and three of the seven men's runners setting theirs.
The two teams also posted some of their best team averages as well, thanks to pack mentalities that saw them work together.
Keller's time of 23:23.1 narrowly edged Brittany Foote's time, set back in 2013, of 23:24 for fifth place. It was the third time that Keller has added her name into the record book this season.
In addition,
Lanie Grogg (24:35.7) set her personal best, as did
Bailey Deaver (25:06.4) and
Lauren Vick (26:58.1). Vick crushed her previous personal best by more than two minutes.
Caroline Fairbanks was second on the team with a 24:19.
Haley Slattery finished fourth on the team with a time of 24:46.4
On the men's side, Dillavou's time of 33:31.6 was more than a minute faster than his previous 10K best. It surpassed Sean Flynn's time of 33:33, set back in 2012.
Yancy made his 10K debut and excelled, with his time of 33:34.4 only 11 seconds off the team's freshman record, set by Robert Willis back in 2013 at 33:25.
Sam Sager closed out his Longwood cross country career by crushing his previous best mark in the 10K by a full minute. He finished in 34:04.7.
Alec Daniel (34:37.3) also set a personal best by more than a minute as well.
Ethan Pettyjohn came in third for the Lancers with the second-fastest 10K he has run at Longwood with a 33:57.
Benjamin Goulet was the fifth and final Lancer to score with a time of 34:33.3.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"Today was about chasing the leaderboard and improving our team time average one last time this fall," said Longwood Head Coach
Brooke Craig. "Both teams worked together to bring out the best in each other. Time for a bit of rest before we put the work in for our inaugural outdoor track season."
