SALEM, Va. – Over the past three seasons, Longwood men's cross country has laid a foundation, and now the team is starting to see results with room to keep growing.
Â
The Lancers finished sixth at the Big South Championship on a hot Sunday afternoon, the program's best finish in team history. The team average of 27:03 was the second-fastest average this season as well.
Â
Jordyn Dillavou continued his strong fall in his Lancer debut with the top time for Longwood, and the rest of the team followed his lead. All five Lancers that scored finished within one minute of each other for the first time this season.
In addition,
Alec Daniel was named to the Big South All-Academic Team.

NOTABLES:

Dillavou's time of 26:22.7 was only seven seconds from cracking the program's top 10 times. In Longwood's five races during the fall, he has finished as the team's top runner four times.
Â
Saad Khan posted a 27:05.4, which was the second-fastest 8K he has run as a Lancer. He has now posted his two fastest times in back-to-back races.
Â
Ethan Pettyjohn ran his fastest time of the season with a 27:11.6 to finish third on the team, and
Benjamin Goulet was only three seconds behind him at 27:14.7.

Â
WHAT THEY SAID:
Â
"The men came into today's race with eyes on fifth place or better," said Longwood Head Coach
Brooke Craig. "They took and chance and put themselves out there. Although they came up just one spot short, this was the best they have looked as a team in program history."
Â
"They achieved the goal of scoring finishers finishing within one minute of each other," Craig added. "Today was a good day, but we left not satisfied, which is great news considering that we are returning all but one of the 10 who ran today."
Â
"I want to give a special shout out to
Sam Sager, who finished his last conference championship today," said Craig. "The progress our men's program had today and is set to achieve in the future wouldn't have happened without his leadership."
Â
UP NEXT:
Â
Longwood will head to the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday, November 10 in Spartanburg, South Carolina for their final race of the fall season.
