Campbell Takes Out Longwood Lacrosse 17-10

Heath, Bischoff Combine For 10 Goals To Lead Campbell’s Charge Past Feisty Lancer Squad

FARMVILLE, Va. – Ally Heath and Sam Bischoff were a handful on Saturday afternoon as Campbell spoiled Longwood's senior day. The duo totaled 10 goals to lead the Camels past Longwood 17-10.

Heath led the way with six goals, including four in the second quarter, for Campbell (7-4, 4-0 Big South). Bischoff did her damage in the second half, scoring three of her four goals in the final 30 minutes.

"Today's game was a good battle for us on Senior Day," said Head Coach Elaine Jones. "Campbell is a well coached top team in the conference and we knew they would present a formidable challenge. I'm proud of the fight that our team had, especially all seven of our seniors who started the game."

They were part of a dynamic Campbell attack that outshot Longwood 38-17. The Camels put 33 on goal, repeatedly testing Longwood freshman goalkeeper Amelia Carlile.

Carlile put together another strong performance. She totaled 16 saves, one shy of the career high 17 she had on Wednesday against Furman, but the Camels were able to capitalize on 25 Longwood turnovers. That gave Campbell the space to get inside and capitalize on free positions as the Longwood defense limited Campbell, who came in leading the Big South in assists, to only two assists in the contest.

"Defensively, we had some great stands, but allowing Campbell to have 12 eight meters was a huge part of our downfall as they capitalized on half of them," Jones added. "Amelia was once more stellar in goal, notching 16 saves, but we needed to do a better job of limiting the amount of shots she had to face."

Claire Libby led Longwood's offense with three goals, and Miranda Helfenbein and Haley Moomau each added two goals apiece. Emily Cate Smith had a team-best four assists, while Moomau added two more. The Lancers had six players score in the contest and registered an assist on nine of their 10 goals.

"Offensively I was pleased that we were able to assist on almost every goal, but we simply weren't  as consistently sharp as we needed to be," said Coach Jones.

Longwood jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first behind goals from two goals from Libby to go with goals from Smith and Nicole Fordyce, but Campbell scored to cut it to 4-3 near the end of the period.

Heath led the charge early in the second, pouring in three goals as part of a four-goal run by Campbell that gave the visitors a 7-4 lead. After Moomau punched one home to cut the lead to two, Heath answered to give Campbell an 8-5 lead at the half.

Campbell stayed on the attack in the third and extended the lead to 12-6 on Heath's fifth and sixth goals of the game.

Moomau scored the opening goal of the fourth, but Campbell did enough to keep Longwood at bay for the remainder of the game.

"Overall, we still  need to really improve on limiting our turnovers and valuing our possessions more," said Coach Jones. "I commend our team for the effort, grit, and hustle they displayed in playing to the final whistle."

The Lancers next game will be on Wednesday April 13, at 1 p.m. in North Carolina against High Point.
