LYNCHBURG, Va. – Longwood got three more singles wins in the ITA Atlantic Regionals back draw courtesy of veterans
Guillermo Cagigas,
Jourdan Kast and
Rosen Naydenov on their second and final day of the tournament Saturday at the Liberty Tennis Complex.
Â
Naydenov, who paired with freshman teammate
Luis Reis to earn an opening-round doubles win in the ITA main draw Friday, got one in the singles column Saturday as well with a 6-3, 6-3 takedown of Virginia Tech's Ryan Bernstine. That win gave four of Longwood's five participants singles wins in their two days at the regional tournament.
Â
Kast contributed another victory to that count with a comeback 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over James Madison's Mario Pena. That was the second win of the tournament for the South Florida transfer and graduate student, who opened the tournament with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Bernstine in the first round of Friday's main draw.
Â
Cagigas, who earned a back-draw win over Radford's Manfredi Vergine Friday, made it two wins Saturday by outlasting Liberty's Omar El Kadi in three sets. Cagigas bounced back from a 3-6 first-set defeat to take set two 6-3, and earned the win after El Kadi retired due to injury during a split 3-3 third set.
Â
Naydenov and Reis also teamed up once more in the main draw but fell in an 8-6 nail-biter to Virginia Tech's Carlo Donato and Alex Ix.
