FARMVILLE, Va. – Backed by hat tricks from Molly
Barkman,
Riley Dolan and
Madison Stair, the Longwood women's lacrosse team picked up their third home win of the season 19-5 over Howard Saturday from Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.
Dolan headlined a Longwood (3-4) offensive field day as 10 different Lancers found the back of the net. Dolan's game-high effort saw three goals and a career-best six assists for nine total points, as well as picking up a team-best five ground balls.
Longwood opened the contest red-hot scoring the game's first nine goals in just 12-plus minutes of action. In that game-opening run, eight different Lancers tickled the twine including Barkman, Dolan, Stair,
Charleigh Kondas, Katilin Luccarelli,
Emma Johnson,
Dana Joss and
Jessica Sanfilippo. Johnson's tally was the first of her collegiate career while Sanfilippo collected her second career goal and first of 2018.
Dolan's six-assist performance was the most in a single game since
Lexi Davis' six-assist performance versus Radford last season to open Big South play. Dolan's nine points were a season-high for the Lancers as a whole, besting the five she collected in the previous win over Mount St. Mary's.
Dolan now leads the squad with 30 points – 14 goals, 16 assists – through just seven games while Stair sits in second with 20 on a team-high 16 goals and four assists.
Sophomore All-Big South performer
Barkman scored a team-high four goals while adding two assists as Stair scored three and assisted on two others. Barkman's four-goal day tied a career-best mark she accomplished twice last season, including the regular season finale at Gardner-Webb.
Sophomores
Dana Joss and
Kaitlin Luccarelli scored two goals each as Luccarelli dished out two saves. Joss' five draw controls tied a game-high mark as Stair also won five draws.
Leading the day offensively for Howard (1-2) was Natia Warren, who scored two goals on five shots and collected two ground balls. Senior goalkeeper Amerra Sheckles saved 12 shots in the loss as Longwood fired a season-high 37 shots, 31 on goal.
Longwood also saw goals from Davis and
Jessie Sawyer, who scored her first of the season.
Senior defender
Hollyn Royster was a force defensively as she caused a game-high three Howard turnovers and won two draws while collecting four ground balls.
Senior captain and goalkeeper
Imani West collected her third win of the season, playing just over 36 minutes before sophomore
Laura O'Toole came on in relief for the final 23-plus minutes. West saved five Bison shots and allowed four goals as O'Toole saved a season-best two shots and allowed one Howard score.
Longwood stays at home as they close out their four-game home stretch Saturday, March 17 when UMBC comes to the friendly confines of Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field. First draw between the Lancers and Retrievers goes up at 1 p.m.
