Leading Off
•Longwood enters the weekend after falling in a midweek matchup at VMI, 4-3 on a walk-off double in the ninth inning.
•The Lancers played back-to-back games against VMI in a home-and-home, wrapped around an idle weekend.
•The weekend off was the first for the Lancers under
Ryan Mau. The last weekend off in the middle of the season was the final weekend of April in 2013 when the Lancers had a break with exams.

•At VMI the Lancers used five pitchers to get through the game in what was a designated staff day.

Jon Peterson was the most effective pitcher for the Lancers, tossing 3.1 shutout innings and struck out five batters with one hit allowed.

Brandon Harvell picked up his second multi-hit game in the last five games, going 2-for-3 and accounted for all three Lancer runs with two RBI and a run scored.

•Zach Potojecki struck out a career-best 13 batters at Savannah State on 3/3, one shy of the school record for a single game.
•Cody Wager spun 7.1 innings of two-run ball and struck out a career-high 10 batters at UNC Wilmington 3/11 and was magical again with 10 strikeouts in 8.1 shutout innings vs. Charleston Southern 3/18, taking a no-hitter two outs into the eighth.
•Longwood leads the Big South with 259 stikeouts on the season, 65 looking.
•Wager is fifth in the Big South with 39 strikeouts and Potojecki is eighth with 37 punchouts.
•As a team Longwood is 12th in the country with 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
•Longwood junior left-hander Michael Catlin has put together a solid campaign, serving as the go-to bullpen arm for the Lancers and has been one of the toughest pitchers to face in the league.
•Catlin is 15th in the NCAA with 5.1 hits allowed per nine innings, has a Big South-low 1.50 ERA, has a league-best .165 batting average against, is seventh in the league with two saves, and has allowed 17 hits, five runs, and no home runs, all the fewest in the conference in 30.0 innings of work across 12 appearances.
•Longwood leads the Big South and is 14th in the country in triples with 12 as a team in 2017. Longwood finished 2016 with five triples.
•Longwood is led in triples by Antwaun Tucker, who leads the Big South and is fourth in the NCAA with five.
•Former Lancer stars right-handed pitcher Aaron Myers and outfielder Kyri Washington left their marks on the Longwood baseball program with Washington leading the Big South in home runs in 2015 and Myers setting the Longwood school records in strikeouts, saves, and innings pitched. Both players have moved on to play professional baseball, where they join former Lancer arm, right-handed pitcher Mark Montgomery.
•Myers was promoted prior to the start of the season and begins 2017 with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Class A (Low-A) affiliate of the Brewers.
•Washington, the number 22 prospect in the Red Sox system according to MLB Pipeline, was promoted to the Class A Advanced Salem Red Sox before the start of the season and sits one level below Double-A.
•Montgomery signed a minor league deal with the St. Louis Cardinals April 3 and begins the season in Triple-A with the Memphis Redbirds.
•Daaaannnn... The Lancers took the first weekend of this April off with a scheduled bye. The weekend was the first weekend off during the season since 2013 when the Lancers took off the final weekend in April during the week of finals. *ping*
•Longwood has placed around the top 30 in several statistical categories in the NCAA.

Scouting Gardner-Webb
•Longwood and Gardner-Webb meet for the first time since 2015 when they play this weekend. Each of the previous two series have come in Boiling Springs, N.C.
•Longwood took two of three against the Runnin' Bulldogs in 2015. The Lancers took the first game, 8-1, behind a complete game by senior right-hander Aaron Myers, who held Gardner-Webb to one run on six hits with nine strikeouts. Kyri Washington had four RBI, including a two-run home run in the ninth. The Lancers took game two, 3-0.
•In 2016 Gardner-Webb finished tied with Longwood and High Point, second place in the conference with a 14-10 mark in league play.
•Gardner-Webb is led in hitting by senior infielder Collin Thacker. Named co-player of the week in the Big South on March 27, Thacker is hitting .381 with three home runs and 27 RBI. The preseason player of the year in the conference and first team all-conference selection in 2016, Thacker led the league with a .394 batting average and led the nation with 28 doubles last season. Thacker is currently in the top five in conference in hits, RBI, doubles, and doubles.
•Danny Sullivan is also hitting better than .300 with a .311 average and leads the conference with eight home runs.
•Saturday starter Bradley Hallman has posted a 1.97 ERA in seven starts, racking up 36 strikeouts across 50.1 innings.
