Leading Off
  • Longwood enters the week after dropping a three-game set at Radford.
  • Longwood takes on NC Central Tuesday in Durham, N.C., before returning home to play VMI Wednesday. The Lancers have a scheduled weekend off after the two midweek games.
  • The Lancers sit fifth in the Big South standings after dropping the Radford series. Longwood was picked to finish fifth in conference in the preseason poll.
  • Sammy Miller is the top hitter on the squad with a .319 average and paces the team with 13 steals, second in conference.

  • The Lancers dropped the first two of the series at Radford. Longwood won the finale, 7-1, behind a career-best four-hit, two-double game by Brandon Harvell.
  • With Saturday's two games and a pair of extra-inning games, Longwood has played 50 innings in the last five games, all in a span of six days.

By The Numbers
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Zach Potojecki was brilliant out of the bullpen at Radford on 3/25 spinning 5.1 innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts. Potojecki struck out a career-best 13 batters at Savannah State on 3/3, one shy of the school record. He is tied for the team lead with a 1.09 WHIP.
  • Senior right-hander Cody Wager spun 7.1 innings of two-run ball and struck out career-high 10 batters at UNC Wilmington 3/11 and was magical again with 10 strikeouts in 8.1 shutout innings vs. Charleston Southern 3/18, coming within four outs of a no-hitter.
  • Wager leads the Big South with 39 strikeouts and Potojecki is third at 37.
  • Junior outfielder Sammy Miller has been great in the lead-off role, reaching base at a rate of .406 (13-for-32) when beginning an inning. Miller is second in the conference with 13 stolen bases and sixth with 26 hits. 
  • Longwood leads the Big South in triples with 11 triples as a team in 2017. Longwood finished 2016 with five triples.
  • Longwood is led in triples by Antwaun Tucker, who leads the Big South and is seventh in the Big South with four. Alex Lewis and Sammy Miller are second on the squad with two each.

Scouting NC Central
  • Longwood and NC Central meet for the first game of a home-and-home series this season. NC Central swept Longwood in two games last season.
  • NC Central enters the midweek series off a three-game sweep of Savannah State, scoring 10 or more runs in all three games, including a 19-1 win.
  • MEAC Co-Rookie of the Week Jake Raby hit .438 in the past week and is currently seventh on the team with a .304 batting average.
  • Ellington Hopkins leads the seven .300 hitters with a .414 average.
  • Corey Joyce has a team-high four homers and leads the team with 27 RBI.

Scouting VMI
  • The Keydets enter the midweek after dropping two of three at The Citadel in a SoCon series. Longwood swept VMI last season, taking both games, including a 10-9 walk-off win in 11 innings in Farmville. Longwood is 1-7 against in-state teams this season.
  • VMI is led in hitting by Matt Pita, who is hitting .356. Will Malbon is second on the team with a .349 average.
    Tyler Tharp leads the squad with six home runs and 17 RBI and is also hitting .302 on the year.
  • Relief pitcher Mason Adamson has posted a 1.38 ERA in 13.0 innings across nine appearances out of the bullpen. Ryan Bennett has a 0.82 ERA in 11.0 innings of work.
