  • Longwood enters the week after taking two of three against Charleston Southern in the first weekend of conference play.

  • Junior right-handed pitcher Zach Potojecki was brilliant at Savannah State on 3/4 and with 6.2 innings of shutout ball and finished one shy of the school record with 13 strikeouts.
  • Senior right-hander Cody Wager spun a career-high 7.1 innings of two-run ball and struck out career-high 10 batters at UNC Wilmington 3/11.
  • Wager was magical again with 10 strikeouts in 8.1 shutout innings vs. Charleston Southern 3/18 and came within four outs of a no-hitter.
  • Longwood leads the Big South with 187 stikeouts on the season, 48 looking.
  • Wager leads the Big South with 35 strikeouts and Potojecki is seventh at 28.
  • Junior outfielder Sammy Miller has been great in the lead-off role, reaching base at a rate of .429 (12-for-28) when beginning an inning. Miller is third in the conference with 10 stolen bases and fourth with 16 runs scored. Miller stole a career high three bases in Friday's win vs. Charleston Southern.
  • Junior shortstop Michael Osinski leads the team in nearly every offensive category through 20 games, leading the conference with 24 RBI, third with 27 hits, fourth with 16 runs scored, and sixth with 38 total bases. 
  • Longwood is second in the Big South in hits (181), third in runs scored (110), third in RBI (98), and is fourth in total bases (254).

Scouting VCU
  • Longwood meets VCU for the first of a home-and-home series Tuesday. VCU enters the week off a sweep at the hands of UNC Wilmington, a team Longwood won one game against earlier in the season.
  • VCU has a pair of impressive wins this season, winning Friday games at Florida State and at Charleston Southern.
  • The Rams finished second place in the Atlantic 10 in 2016 and return 23 letter winners from a team that split in two games with the Lancers a season ago.
  • Freshman infielder Paul Witt leads the Big South in batting average, hitting .403 and has played in all 20 games.
  • Four players are hitting better than .300 for VCU. Alex Gransback is hitting .356, while Daane Berezo is hitting .309, and Haiden Lamb is batting .303.
  • Darian Carpenter is leading the team with three home runs and is tied for the team lead with 10 RBI, tied with Gransback, Zac Ching, and Logan Farrar.
  • Sam Donko has made a team-high nine appearances out of the bullpen with a 1.15 ERA.
