ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Longwood women's tennis team saw its two-match win streak come to an end Friday, as Winthrop defeated the Lancers, 6-1, on the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts. The Lancers fall to 5-6 on the campaign and 1-2 in Big South competition, while the Eagles improve to 5-6.
 
Winthrop won the crucial doubles point to open the match, with victories on court one and two. At the top of the lineup, Alice Garcia and Mariana Humberg defeated the Longwood pair of Malin Allgurin and Paloma Alatorre, 8-1. At the No. 2 spot in the order, Tijana Uzelac and Ekin Gunaysu defeated Anna Pelak and Nicole Parker by an 8-1 margin.
 
Longwood picked up a victory from the No. 3 position, as the tandem of Mason Thomas and Maria Coronel improved to 3-4 on the season with an 8-4 victory over Monica Aguado and Camille Amrani.
 
In singles, Nicole Parker picked up her seventh victory of the season , as she won via retirement at the No. 6 spot in the order over Amrani. The win for Parker is her fourth straight and improves her record to 7-3 for the season.
 
However, the Eagles would take the next five matches. Alatorre was forced to retire following the seventh game of her match on court four, as Humberg was ahead, 5-2, before the retirement of Alatorre. On court three, Uzelac picked up a straight-set, 6-1, 6-0, victory over Coronel.
 
At the fifth position, Mason Thomas saw her two match win streak come to a close, as she was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Aguado. Meanwhile Pelak fell at the No. 2 slot, as she was defeated, 6-1, 6-2 by Gunaysu. At the top of the order, Allgurin's two-match winning streak was halted by Garcia, who earned a 6-2, 6-1 decision.
 
Up next, Longwood is scheduled to host its next two matches on Lancer Courts in Farmville. The squad takes on UNC Asheville on Tuesday, March 10, before stepping out of Big South competition Wednesday, March 11 against St, Joe's. The UNC Asheville match is slated for a 12 p.m. start
