LEADING OFF• Longwood opens Big South play this weekend with a three-games series against Campbell in Buies Creek.
• The Lancers will be playing their 15th, 16th and 17th games on the road to open the season.
• Longwood took 1-of-3 from SEC foe Georgia last weekend in Athens. The Lancers took down the Bulldogs on Friday night behind a stellar performance from senior
Aaron Myers on the mound.
• Longwood and Campbell have met 17 times with the Camels leading the all-time series 11-6.
• Since joining the Big South, the Lancers are just 1-5 against Campbell. Longwood's lone win came in Buies Creek in 2013.
• Longwood is coming off its best offensive performance of the year on Tuesday, Scoring nine runs on 14 hits.
• Longwood was picked ninth in the Big South Preseason Poll.
BY THE NUMBERS• Longwood's freshman shortstop
Michael Osinski has been en fuego over the past five games with 10 of his 12 hits coming in that span.
• The rookie is 10-for-20 with eight runs batted in along with a pair of doubles and his first collegiate home run since the series finale with Army.
• In four of those five games, Osinski has had at-least two hits and two RBI. The freshman has jumped his batting average .210 points in the five-game stretch, from .154 to a team-best .364.
• Junior left-fielder
Kyri Washington is 11th in the nation in home runs through March 11 with five long balls to his credit. The slugger is just one homer off of the national lead.
• Center fielder
Colton Konvicka sits tied for second in the Big South with nine stolen bases this season.
• Konvicka has stolen four bags in the past four games and all nine of his swipes have come in the last nine games.
• Friday's opener at Campbell has pitchers' duel written all over it as Longwood ace
Aaron Myers will square off with Heath Bowers for Campbell. The two have tossed the most innings amongst Big South pitchers in 2015.
• Last season, Myers and Bowers went head-to-head in a thrilling game in Farmville. Myers was spectacular, allowing one run on a single hit in a nine-inning effort. Bowers was equally impressive allowing a single run on five hits in seven innings.
CHECKING OUT CAMPBELL• The Camels have not missed a beat in the transition to new head coach Justin Haire. A longtime assistant at Campbell, Haire takes over the top step after Greg Goff was hired as the head man at Louisiana Tech.
• Campbell defeated East Carolina 9-4 Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to 11 games heading into Big South Conference play.
• Longwood and Campbell have met 17 times with the Camels holding an 11-6 edge in those previous meetings. Campbell swept Longwood in the 2014 series played in Farmville.
• Once again Longwood will face one of the most potent offenses in the country. Campbell is currently 11th in the nation in batting average hitting .315 as a team.
• At the plate, the Camels are led by redshirt junior and NC State transfer Brian Taylor. The outfielder is hitting a league-best .446 with nine doubles and a home run.
• Campbell also boasts the top pitching staff in the Big South with a 2.07 ERA, nearly a full run better than the second place staff.
• The Camels starting rotation is arguably the best in the conference thus far with Heath Bowers, Nick Thayer and Grant Yost combining to go 8-1 thus far with a combined 1.92 ERA.
