Longwood Welcomes Campbell To Bolding Stadium

Lancers and fellow North Division Fighting Camels to play three-game Big South Conference weekend series in Farmville

FARMVILLE, Va. –
Longwood University will host its second consecutive three-game Big South Conference home series this weekend, March 21-23, against North Division opponent Campbell University at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville.  The Lancers enter the league series with a record of 12-10 overall, 2-1 in the Big South, and will play the Fighting Camels (15-7, 1-2 Big South) on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.  The Friday game will be broadcast locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM or via the Internet at wvhl.net, while the Saturday and Sunday games will be video-streamed live on the Big South Network.

Play4Kay
The middle game of the series against Campbell on March 22 has been designated Play4Kay to raise awareness for breast cancer victims and fighters with free pink t-shirts to the first 50 fans, and all proceeds and donations will support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Series History
Longwood and Campbell have met 14 times since 2006 and the Fighting Camels lead the all-time series, 8-6.  The Lancers and Campbell played four games last season, as the Fighting Camels won two (1-0, 5-2) out of three (3-2) in North Carolina, before eliminating Longwood from the 2013 Big South Championship semifinals (8-6). 

Pitching Rotations
Longwood will have a pitching rotation that features junior RHP Aaron Myers/Newport News (3-1, 1.80 ERA) on Friday, junior LHP Brandon Vick/Newport News (2-1, 2.29 ERA) on Saturday and either freshman RHP Mitchell Kuebbing/Burlington, Kentucky (1-1, 1.77 ERA) or sophomore RHP Allen Ellis/Mechanicsville on (1-1, 6.00 ERA) Sunday.  Campbell will counter with junior RHP Heather Bowers (4-1, 3.31 ERA) on Friday, senior RHP Ryan Koopman (2-1, 2.27 ERA) on Saturday and senior LHP Hector Cedano (2-0, 2.14 ERA) on Sunday.

The Head Coach
Brian McCullough has an overall record of 12-10 in his first season as mentor of the tradition-rich program.  A former starting pitcher and team captain for the Lancers, he served the past four years as an assistant coach, most-recently as the program's recruiting coordinator and pitching coach, while also assisting with all baseball operations, including scheduling.  McCullough has played professionally in the independent Frontier, Northern and Atlantic Leagues (2007-11).

A Look At Longwood Offensively / Season Statistics
Longwood is batting .276 through 22 games while averaging 5.4 runs with 16 home runs, six triples, 34 doubles, 116 RBI and 21 stolen bases.  Senior captain Matt Dickason/Chesapeake (.344, 1 HR, 3 3B, 5 2B, 9 RBI, 14 R, 2 SB) has led the Lancers, followed by junior Brandon Delk/Newport News (.337, 5 HR, 1 3B, 2 2B, 17 RBI, 17 R), sophomore Kyri Washington/Prospect (.290, 4 HR, 7 2B, 18 RBI, 17 R, 5 SB), senior Scott Burkett/Williamsburg (.284, 1 HR, 4 2B, 9 RBI, 10 R), freshman Mac McCafferty/Stevens, Pennsylvania (.283, 1 HR, 1 2B, 13 RBI, 7 RBI) and sophomore C.J. Roth/Yorktown (.280, 1 3B, 2 2B, 8 RBI, 11 R, 2 SB).

A Look At Longwood Pitching / Season Statistics
Longwood has a team earned run average of 4.03 through 199.0 innings with 152 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .257 batting average.  Aaron Myers (3-1, 1.80 ERA, 40.0 IP, 41K) has led the Lancer starters, and has five appearances with five starts, two complete games and one shutout.  Also throwing well from the mound has been Brandon Vick (2-1, 2.29 ERA, 35.1 IP, 19K, five appearances-five starts-one complete game).  Mitchell Kuebbing (1-1, 1.77 ERA, 20.1 IP, 16K, seven appearances-one start) and sophomore RHP Travis Burnette/Lynchburg (1-1, 3.22 ERA, 22.1 IP, 11K, four saves, 11 appearances) have been solid out of the bullpen.

NCAA Statistics
Through March 16, Longwood ranked 20th in Division I home runs, 27th in double plays, 47th in hits, 70th in triples, 71st in runs, 84th in slugging percentage, 93rd in shutouts and stolen bases, and 94th in doubles.  Aaron Myers ranked fifth in Division I complete games, sixth in strikeouts, 14th in games started and 70th in wins.  Brandon Vick ranked 14th in games started and 21st in complete games.  Allen Ellis ranked 14th in games started.  Matt Dickason ranked 22nd in triples, 26th in hits and 39th in total bases.  Brandon Delk ranked 30th in home runs and 77th in total bases.  Travis Burnette ranked 31st in saves.  Alex Owens ranked 65th in doubles, 71st in home runs and 81st in RBI.  Kyri Washington ranked 65th in doubles.  Freshman Brandon Harvell/Yorktown ranked 74th in sacrifice bunts.  Sophomore Colton Konvicka/Richmond ranked 92nd in stolen bases.

Big South Statistics / Weekly Report (PDF)
Through March 19, Matt Dickason led the Big South in triples, was tied for third in total bases, tied for fourth in hits and tied for seventh in slugging percentage.  Aaron Myers led the Big South in complete games and strikeouts, and was tied for first in innings pitched and shutouts, and eighth in ERA.  Brandon Delk was tied for first in home runs, second in total bases, fourth in slugging percentage, tied for fifth in RBI, and tied for sixth in hits and runs.  Allen Ellis was tied for first in games started.  Brandon Vick was tied for second in complete games and sixth in innings pitched.  Kyri Washington was tied for third in home runs and total bases, tied for sixth in runs and tied for seventh in slugging percentage.  Alex Owens was tied for third in RBI, tied for fourth in walks, tied for fifth in doubles and tied for seventh in home runs.  Travis Burnette was tied for fourth in appearances and saves, and eighth in opponent batting average.  Colton Konvicka was tied for sixth in stolen bases.

Season Superlatives
Kyri Washington is the team leader with nine multi-hit games, followed by Brandon Delk (8), Scott Burkett (7) and Matt Dickason (7).  Delk, Washington and Alex Owens each have four multi-RBI games.  Delk had team season-bests of four hits, five RBI and three runs against Marist (2/22).  Washington had two home runs and eight total bases at William and Mary (3/19).  Owens had 15 putouts against East Tennessee State (2/17).  C.J. Roth had seven assists against Marist (2/23) and Charleston Southern (3/15).  Aaron Myers went the distance in complete games against Wofford (2/28) and Ohio (3/8), and posted 10 strikeouts against Charleston Southern (3/14).  Brandon Vick went the distance in a complete game against Ohio (3/8).

Streaks Of Note
Alex Owens has the season's longest hitting streak of 10 games (15-35, .429), tied for fourth-best in the Big South this season, and a streak of reaching base of 11 games, tied for the team season's best.  C.J. Roth has the second longest hitting streak of nine games (13-38, .342), and the third-longest streak of reaching base at 10 games.  Matt Dickason has an eight-game hitting streak (14-35, .400) to his credit this season, and also has the longest current hitting streak of six games (10-26, .385).  Brandon Delk has the longest current hitting streak of reaching base of 11 games, tied for the team's best.

Perfect At The End
Longwood is a perfect 11-0 this season when leading after eight innings and 10-0 when leading after seven innings.  The Lancers are 10-3 when out-hitting their opponents.

Home Field Advantage
Longwood has an overall record of 360-161 (.691) at Bolding Stadium, including 9-4 at home this season.  The Lancers are 100-72 (.581) in Farmville since becoming Division I-eligible for 2008.  Longwood inaugurated competition at the completely renovated facility (formerly Lancer Stadium) in 1994, and won that first game 8-3 vs. Davis & Elkins (W.Va.) on March 12, 1994.

Up Next
Longwood will play a non-conference game at the University of Virginia of the Atlantic Coast Conference on March 26 at 5 p.m., before playing its first three-game Big South series on the road this season at North Division opponent Radford University on March 28-30.  The Cavaliers are ranked nationally between number three and five in each of the five recognized collegiate baseball polls this week, including fifth in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.
