FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Athletics recognized its 2013 Longwood Scholar Athletes at halftime of the men's basketball game against Radford University on February 19. The department honored 126 student-athletes, cheerleaders and athletic training students for their academic achievements. Scholar Athletes are individuals who have earned a 3.0 GPA (grade point average) over the previous two semesters (fall/spring). In addition, All-Academic Team recognition was presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA on his/her team/program; students who have reached sophomore class standing are eligible to receive the award once during his/her career.
"Last night's event was a terrific celebration of our student-athletes' academic achievements this past year, as we recognized our Scholar Athletes and new All-Academic Team members," said
Michelle Meadows, Longwood Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Enhancement & SWA. "We are extremely proud of their successes, and this is just one example of how Longwood student-athletes exemplify citizen leadership and scholarship within the Lancer community."
