HOW IT HAPPENED:

The two starters, Brachbill for High Point and Jackson Garland for the Lancers, picked up where the starters from Friday left off with three straight scoreless frames that also didn't feature many baserunners to start the game.

However, High Point got some separation in the fourth. The Panthers batted around and used death by papercut with a bunch of singles to score six runs.

That was more than enough for Brachbill (10-1) to earn the win. He tossed eight scoreless frames with seven strikeouts against two hits and two walks to get the win.

The Lancers put multiple runners on base in both the fifth and sixth to threaten, but High Point used a two-run double from Caleb Hammond and a two-run home run by Seojun Oh to extend the lead in those innings.

Garland (4-3) took the loss for Longwood despite striking out seven in 3.1 innings of work. He gave up six runs on five hits and two walks.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Not our greatest game by any stretch, but the nice thing is that every loss counts the same no matter the score: one game," said Longwood Head Coach Ray Noe. "Gotta give credit to High Point tonight, especially Brachbill. He's a really good arm and totally shut down our offense tonight. Their offense was ready to go and found a way to break the game open on some untimely miscues on our end."

"We will be ready to go tomorrow, and I look forward to our team's bounce back," Noe added. "All hands on deck for a Sunday series win."

UP NEXT:

Longwood and High Point square off on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. with the winner taking the series. The game is scheduled to air on ESPN+.
