TRISTAN CAREY #SCTop10 No. 4 DUNK OVER RU DEFENDER (Longwood Lancers YouTube)

FARMVILLE, Va. --
R.J. Price scored a game-high 28 points to lead Radford University to an 86-75 Big South Conference North Division men's basketball victory at Longwood University on Wednesday night at Willett Hall in Farmville.  The visiting Highlanders (18-10, 8-5 Big South) trailed 51-42 early in the second half, and the contest was tied at 68-68 with under five minutes remaining, before RU closed on an 18-7 run over the final 4:17 for the road win.  Javonte Green added a double-double of 22 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the visitors.  Sophomore captain Lucas Woodhouse/Greenlawn, New York had 19 points and a game-high six assists to lead the Lancers (8-20, 3-10 Big South), while senior captain Tristan Carey/Colonial Beach contributed a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Longwood will remain at home to host fellow North Division opponent, High Point University, on Saturday, February 22 at 5 p.m. at Willett Hall in Farmville.

"I thought our effort was excellent and that our guys really embraced the challenge tonight in playing, who I think, is one of the two or three best teams in the league," said first-year Longwood head coach Jayson Gee.  "I thought we fought hard … we played hard enough to win, but just made too many errors to beat a good team.  R.J. Price and Javonte Green really took over at winning time and we just did not have any answers for them defensively."

Longwood scored the opening basket to lead 2-0 on a jumper by redshirt-junior captain Jeylani Dublin/Brooklyn, New York before Radford used an 11-4 run to lead 11-6 at 16:27, getting a pair of three-point field goals from Ya Ya Anderson.  The Lancers were within 13-10 at 13:11 after a three-pointer by Carey, but the Highlanders outscored the Lancers 18-12 to lead 31-22 with 5:18 left in the half.  Green (8) and Price (5) combined for 13 of the 18 points for RU.  Longwood, however, fought back and outscored Radford 17-7 to lead 39-38 at halftime, getting points from five different players, including five by Carey and four by Woodhouse.

Longwood continued its momentum and outscored Radford 12-4 to begin the second half and led 51-42 with 16:10 remaining after a three-pointer by sophomore transfer Leron Fisher/Baltimore, Maryland.  The Highlanders battled back once again and tied it at 54-54 with 11:24 left on a dunk by Jalen Carethers.  A jumper and free throw by Price for a three-point play at 6:35 gave RU a 65-60 lead, but the Lancers rallied to tie it at 68-68 following a basket by Dublin at 4:52.  A pair of free throws by Price and a jumper by Green made it 72-68 at 3:23, but the 6-4 Carey drove the left side of the lane and dunked over a 6-7 defender with 3:05 on the clock, was fouled, and made the free throw to make it a one-point game at 72-71.  The dunk made ESPN SportsCenter as the No. 4 'Play of the Day' among the network's #SCTop10.  Anderson answered with another three-pointer at 2:45 and Radford would secure the triumph with 9-11 free throws over the final 1:39, including 4-5 by Price.

Woodhouse led Longwood with his 19 points and game-high six assists.  He now totals 376 career assists to rank 4th all-time, and his 196 assists this season is a new school record.  Carey finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Lancers, his second-straight double-double and fourth of the season.  He now totals 1,433 career points to rank 8th all-time, and ranks 2nd all-time with 223 career three-pointers.  Carey has also now established a new season record for three-pointers with 87.  Dublin had 14 points, making 7-9 field goals, and Fisher finished with 10 points, off the bench.  Longwood shot 48% (28-59) from the field, including 45% (9-20) on three-pointers and 71% (10-14) at the free throw line.

Price led Radford with his game-high 28 points, including 19 in the second half.  Green also had a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Highlanders, while Anderson finished with 14 points.  RU shot 48% (28-58) from the field, including 41% (9-22) on three-pointers and 78% (21-27) at the line.

Longwood and Radford were meeting for the 20th time in the sport since 1976-77, but only for the sixth time since 1983-84, and just the fourth time as Division I programs (1-3).  The Highlanders lead the overall series against the Lancers, 15-5.
