Longwood Finishes Second At Coastal Carolina

TEAM RESULTS / INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

CONWAY, S.C. --
Junior Russell Reed/Onemo ran a new school-record 5K time of 15:55 to lead Longwood University men's cross country to a second-place finish with 45 points on Friday evening at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Conway, South Carolina. Classmate Nick Reed/Fairfax, no relation, also bettered the previous 5K record for the Lancers that had been run by D.J. Palmer in 2006 (16:05). The host Chanticleers won the four-team race with their 27 points, led by individual winner Joseph Keitt (15:29). Longwood will participate in the Big South Preview hosted by VMI on Saturday, September 21 at 10 a.m. in Buena Vista.

"This performance was terrific, especially for a young team," said head coach Catherine Hanson. "It was a great start to the season, as this effort will carry them confidently into the pre-conference race next weekend."

Russell Reed finished third overall among the 70 runners, while Nick Reed placed fifth with their respective collegiate-best times. They were followed by freshmen Robert Willis/Ashburn (16:26, 10th), Johnny Leder/Amelia (16:28, 12th) and Mark Sohl/Burke (17:05, 21st) to round out the scoring positions. Sophomore Seth Taylor/Chesapeake (17:38, 32nd), along with freshmen Shea Pennington/ Richmond (17:41, 33rd) and Marc Mawyer/Glen Allen (18:35, 44th) also ran for the Lancers.

Coastal Carolina was followed by Longwood (45), The Citadel (61) and South Carolina State (108).
