BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Freshman

Aaron Myers/Newport News earned the save with the final 2.0 shutout innings. John Reilly had two hits and an RBI for the Fighting Camels (29-7, 9-4 Big South), ranked No. 25 in this week's Baseball America Top-25 Poll, while Ryan Mattes took the mound loss. Longwood and Campbell will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. in North Carolina.
Longwood took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning, as Konvicka (3-5) singled to lead-off, moved to second on a fielding error and scored on an RBI double from junior
Alex Owens/Purcellville (2-4, RBI). Freshman
C.J. Roth/Yorktown (0-3), who had reached base on the error, later crossed the plate unearned on an RBI grounder by junior
Scott Burkett/Williamsburg (2-4, RBI).
Campbell scored a run in the third inning to make it 2-1 after Michael DeLucia (1-3) singled to lead-off and scored unearned with one out courtesy a fielding error. The Camels added another run in the seventh to tie it at 2-2 when Nick Ray (0-4) reached base with one out on a throwing error and crossed the plate on a two-out RBI single from Reilly (2-3, RBI).
Longwood responded with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, getting a lead-off single from Burkett, who advanced to second via a sacrifice bunt from senior
Justin Lacy/Glen Allen (1-3), before sophomore
Travis Biddix/Richmond pinch-ran for Burkett and scored on the clutch RBI double to left center field by Washington (1-4, RBI).
Morgan (3-4) started and pitched the first 7.0 innings for Longwood, scattering six hits and two runs, both unearned, with no walks and one strikeout. Myers (7) tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings for the Lancers to earn the save, yielding two hits with one walk and no strikeouts. Morgan and Myers were outstanding as the two combined to allow just eight hits, only one for extra bases, against the top-hitting team in the Big South, as Campbell entered the game with a team batting average of .325, while averaging over 11 hits per contest.
Mattes (6-2) started and pitched the first 7.1 innings for Campbell, allowing 10 hits and three runs, two earned, with one walk and seven strikeouts. Ryan Thompson went the final 1.2 innings for the Fighting Camels, yielding no hits with no walks and one strikeout.
The contest was televised exclusively on ESPN3, the first game of a five-game Friday night Big South package on ESPN3. It was Longwood's first win against a ranked opponent since becoming Division I-eligible in 2008, and the Lancers now lead the closely-played all-time series between the two schools, 6-5.
