BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Freshman Robert Willis/Ashburn ran an 8K time of 26:42 to lead the Longwood University men's cross country team to a 16-place finish among 46 teams with 551 points on Saturday afternoon at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Princeton University won the 'Brown' race with its 94 points, while Khari Bowen of Monmouth University was the individual winner with his time of 25:04. Longwood will race in the Blue Ridge Open hosted by Appalachian State University on Friday, October 18 at 3 p.m. in Boone, North Carolina.
"The men's race was an incredible experience for the program," said head coach Catherine Hanson. "Finishing the race in 16th just behind Colgate is a milestone in my career. These young men raced today and had a strong showing, pushing through hot and muggy conditions with other runners having difficulty left and right. This is definitely a highlight for my tenure at Longwood."
Willis finished 71st overall among the 372 runners, and was followed by juniors Nick Reed/Fairfax (26:46, 77th) and Russell Reed/Onemo (27:01, 96th), freshman Johnny Leder/Amelia (27:15, 120th), sophomore Seth Taylor/Chesapeake (27:53, 190th), along with freshmen Mark Sohl/Burke (29:41, 322nd) and Shea Pennington/Richmond (29:54, 332nd). Nick Reed ran a new collegiate-best for the distance.
