Jenna Page Named VATA Athletic Trainer of the Year

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University assistant athletics director for sports medicine and head athletic trainer, Jenna Page, has been named the Virginia Athletic Trainers' Association (VATA) Collegiate/University Athletic Trainer of the Year, as announced January 12 during the VATA Annual Symposium at the Hilton Richmond.  Page was nominated for the award by Longwood Associate Professor of Athletic Training and Program Director, Sharon M. Menegoni, and Dr. Katherine L. Dec of CJW Sports Medicine, one of the team physicians for the Lancers.

“I am honored to receive this award and lucky to have the team that surrounds me at Longwood Athletics,” said Page.  “From the support of the administration, quality of care from our team physicians with CJW Sports Medicine and OrthoVA for our student-athletes, the great relationship with the athletic training education program, the strong team of athletic trainers in the department, the athletic training student and student-athletes.”

In her nomination letter, Menegoni wrote that Page is one of a rare breed in her generation of athletic trainers.  She works diligently to oversee and provide the best possible health care for over 250 athletes.  Dr. Dec wrote that Page has proven her professionalism by being a consistent force in getting the needs of the university and athlete met.

“This is well due recognition of the great work performed by Jenna and her staff on behalf of Longwood University,” said Director of Athletics Troy Austin.  “Jenna has built the athletics training department into an effective unit while serving as a trusted care provider for the student-athletes.  I am proud of Jenna for this accomplishment and thankful she is a Lancer.”

Page is in her sixth year at Longwood during 2012-13 and was promoted to her new position in July 2012, after serving as the head athletic trainer since March 25, 2009.  She oversees athletic training along with strength and conditioning while specifically handling the sports of women's soccer and softball, and previously served as the associate athletic trainer since July 2008.  Page was an assistant athletic trainer during 2007-08 and had served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Virginia during 2006-07 while earning her Master of Education degree in athletic training.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Page holds membership with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), is a Virginia Board of Medicine Licensure, has membership in the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and is also American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid and Professional Rescuer Certified. She is a 2006 graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training.
