FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University men's and women's cross country head coach
Catherine Hanson has announced the recent addition of Richard Morris as the new men's and women's cross country assistant coach. Morris is from nearby Burkeville and is a graduate of both Nottoway High School and The College of William and Mary (2010) where he was a student-athlete on the Tribe cross country and track teams, earning All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and All-East Team honors.
“The addition of Richard “Skeeter” Morris is in perfect conjunction with our move to the Big South,” said Hanson. “Skeeter will bring his personal levels of accomplishment, motivation, and experience that he has as a very competitive athlete/runner for William and Mary. His passion for running is deep, and he still competes quite competitively in amateur racing. He will inspire and motivate the student-athletes to compete at the highest levels possible. I am quite pleased.”
Morris participated in cross country and track at William and Mary for four years. He was also the Virginia Group AA High School State Champion in the Indoor 3200 in track while earning All-State honors in cross country as well as both indoor and outdoor track. Morris served as a personal trainer in Williamsburg during 2010 and 2011 at both Fitness Together and the Williamsburg Landing Retirement Community. Locally, he worked as a personal trainer at the Southside Virginia Family YMCA from 2008-10, and has worked as a Lifeguard at Twin Lakes State Park (2003-06) as well.
Morris earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Health Sciences from William and Mary.
