Longwood Falls At No. 12 Creighton 105-57

OMAHA, Neb. -- Longwood University dropped a 105-57 non-conference men's basketball decision on the road at No. 12 Creighton University of the Missouri Valley Conference on Tuesday night at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska.  The Lancers (0-4) were led by redshirt-sophomore Jeylani Dublin|Brooklyn, New York with career highs and game highs of 19 points and eight rebounds.  The nationally-ranked Bluejays (4-0) had four players score in double figures while led by All-American Doug McDermott along with Gregory Echenique with 17 points each.  It was the second of four games in the 2012 Continental Tire/Las Vegas Invitational, as Longwood will play Florida A&M University of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Friday, November 23, at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada at 2 p.m. ET.

Longwood and Creighton were tied at 4-4 early before the Bluejays used a 19-4 run to lead 23-8 at 10:12 behind eight quick points from Echenique and six early points by McDermott.  The Lancers were within 25-15 at 8:35 after a 7-2 run behind five points from junior captain Tristan Carey|Colonial Beach, but the Bluejays took control over the final 7:33 of the half, outscoring the visitors 28-9 to lead comfortably at the intermission, 53-24.  McDermott had 12 points at the break, and Echenique and Austin Chatman each added nine first-half points.

Longwood started fast in the second half, outscoring Creighton 11-7 to trail 60-35 with 15:39 remaining as Carey scored six quick points.  The Bluejays, however, answered with an 18-6 run as Will Artino scored seven-straight points to lead 78-41 at 11:21, and only the final margin was left to decide.  CU took its largest lead at 105-55 with 31-seconds on the clock as all 16 players in uniform played for the hosts, and 13 of them scored points before the pleased home crowd of 15,826.

Dublin led Longwood with his career highs and game highs of 19 points and eight rebounds.  Carey finished with 14 points and four steals for the Lancers.  LU shot 37.9% (22-58) from the field, including 18.8% (3-16) on three-pointers, and 55.6% (10-18) at the free throw line.  Freshman standout Michael Kessens|Nyon, Switzerland, this week's Big South Conference Freshman of the Week who entered the game with averages of 15.0 points and 10.3 rebounds, contributed just two points and four rebounds in 14 minutes before fouling out.

McDermott and Echenique each led Creighton with their respective 17 points.  Artino and Ethan Wragge  had 13 points apiece off the bench for the Bluejays.  Chatman contributed nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.  CU shot 64.8% (35-54) from the field, including 46.7% (7-15) on three-pointers, and 73.7% (28-38) at the line.  The hosts forced 19 Longwood turnovers converted into 30 points, and enjoyed an advantage of 56-13 in bench scoring.
