CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Longwood University posted 788 points to finish 28th among 34 teams Friday at the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. Virginia Tech took first place with 35 points, and Liberty University runner Zac Edwards was the individual winner with his time of 24:08, while freshman
Stephen Ferguson|Columbia (Goochland) led the Lancers with his 26:56 over the 8000-meter course. Longwood will run again October 14 at Blue Ridge Open hosted by Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina at 4:30 p.m.
Longwood was led by Ferguson who placed 116th among 260 runners, and was followed by freshman
Trey Thomas|Stafford (Mountain View) (28:32, 190th), sophomore
Kyle Moller|Gainesville (Battlefield) (28:47, 196th), freshman
Matt Wallace|Lynchburg (Brookville) (28:52, 201st), seniors
Robert Webb|Williamsburg (Lafayette) (28:55, 202nd) and
Justin Cooke|Chesterfield (Manchester) (28:55, 203rd), along with freshman
Nick Reed|Fairfax (Robinson) (29:15, 215th). Moller ran a new collegiate-best time for the 8K, while Thomas (making his Longwood debut), Wallace, and Reed were running the distance for the first time as Lancers. Also running in Charlotte during the 80-man men's B race were senior
Alex Strittmater|Haymarket (Battlefield) (29:39, 47th), freshman
Ryan Canoy|Williamsburg (Bruton) (29:48, 52nd), and senior
Anthony Caldwell|Charlottesville (Manchester) (31:11, 68th). Canoy and Caldwell were running the 8K for the first time as collegians.
Following Virginia Tech among the top-five were Liberty (86), Wake Forest (101), Georgia Tech (106), Furman (170).
