BOX SCORE

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 7-0 shutout baseball victory at home past the College of William and Mary from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Saturday afternoon at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville. The Lancers (22-12) scored five runs in the fourth inning to break an early scoreless tie en route to stopping a 10-game losing streak to the Tribe (17-16) dating back to the 2006 season. Sophomore Justin Lacy|Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker) had three hits and two RBI, including a home run, while junior Dustin Sollars|Midlothian (Cosby) added two hits and two RBI with a homer as well, and freshman Cory Ramsey|Petersburg (Matoaca) pitched 7.0 strong innings for the mound win. Longwood and William and Mary will play again on Sunday, April 10, in Williamsburg beginning at 1 p.m.

Longwood and William and Mary were scoreless through three innings as an early pitching duel took place between Ramsey and Matt Davenport. The Lancers finally got to Davenport in the fourth, collecting five runs on five hits during the at-bat. Junior Michael Sims|Stafford (North Stafford) (0-1) drew a walk to lead-off, followed by a double by senior captain Brant Jones|Richmond (Monacan) (2-4). Sims would score on a wild pitch before Lacy (3-4, 2 rbi) added an RBI single that scored Jones. Sollars (2-4, 2 rbi) followed with a two-run homer to left field, his third round-tripper of the season. Freshman Alex Owens|Purcellville (Loudoun Valley) (1-3) reached on an infield single and later crossed the plate on a run-scoring single by senior captain Chris Briere|Midlothian (James River) (1-4, rbi) to complete the decisive and big inning.

Longwood added two runs in the sixth to provide for the final margin of victory. Lacy opened the at-bat with a towering solo home run to right field for his team-leading fifth homer this season. Sollars followed with a double down the left field line and later scored unearned courtesy a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt from Owens. It would prove more than enough runs on the day as Ramsey and sophomore Kyler Morgan|Lancaster, Pa. (Lampeter-Strasburg) combined for the five-hit shutout, the team's fourth shutout this season.

Ramsey (5-2) took the Longwood pitching win with the first 7.0 shutout innings on the mound, allowing only four hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Morgan tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings in relief for the Lancers, yielding one hit with no walks.

Davenport (2-5) had the pitching loss for William and Mary with the first 5.0-plus innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs, six earned, with six strikeouts and one walk. Reid Killen tossed the final 3.0 scoreless innings for the Tribe, yielding one hit with five strikeouts and one walk as well. Sean Aiken (1-1) had the only extra base hit for the visitors with a double.

It was Longwood's first win against William and Mary since a 2-1 win over the Tribe back in 2006. The Lancers continue to trail in the all-time series 16-7 entering Sunday's game in Williamsburg.
