FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University swept a home baseball doubleheader past visiting Norfolk State University of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tuesday at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville. The Lancers (10-5) have won eight-straight games after taking game one against the Spartans (5-7) by a score of 7-4 and game two by a score of 11-0. Freshman
Scott Burkett|Williamsburg (Jamestown) led the way in the opener with three hits, including a two-run home run, and classmate
Cory Ramsey|Petersburg (Matoaca) earned the pitching win with 7.0 solid innings, while senior captain
Brant Jones|Richmond (Monacan) and freshman
Matt Dickason|Chesapeake (Indian River) each had two hits and two RBI in the nightcap as sophomore
Kyler Morgan|Lancaster, Pa. (Lampeter-Strasburg) and freshman
Kyle Hall|Reedsville (Northumberland) combined for the one-hit shutout on the mound. Longwood will play again on Wednesday, March 9, on the road at VCU of the Colonial Athletic Association at The Diamond in Richmond beginning at 6 p.m.

The Spartans took a 3-1 lead in the third after a two-run home run from Brandon Hairston (2-4, 2 rbi). Longwood answered again, though, with two runs in the third as well with a pair of run-scoring singles by junior
Robby Newman|Virginia Beach (Salem) (1-4, rbi) and Burkett (3-4, 3 rbi). The Lancers made it 4-3 in the fourth as junior
Dustin Sollars|Midlothian (Cosby) (2-4, rbi) provided a sacrifice fly, and the hosts made it 6-3 in the fifth when Burkett hit his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot to left field. Longwood added a final run in the seventh on an RBI single by senior captain
Chris Briere|Midlothian (James River) (1-3, rbi), before NSU scored a final run in the eighth via a fielding error.
Ramsey (1-1) gained the Longwood pitching win with 7.0 solid innings on the mound, scattering six hits and three runs, all earned, with five strikeouts and three walks. Junior captain
Mark Montgomery|Williamsburg (Bruton) tossed a scoreless final inning on the mound for the Lancers for his fourth save this season with one walk.
Longwood scored 10 runs in the first inning of game two while sending 14 batters to the plate, gaining six hits along with the aid of five errors of both the fielding and throwing variety. The Lancers started with five-straight singles from Jones (2-3, 2 rbi), Sollars (1-4), sophomore
Justin Lacy|Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker) (1-4), Newman (1-3, 2 rbi), and Dickason (2-4, 2 rbi), including a run-scoring hit by Newman and a two-run hit by Dickason. Burkett (1-4, rbi) also drove in a run during the at-bat, while Jones had a two-run single on his second at-bat and hit of the opening inning. The Lancers added a final run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Newman.
Morgan (2-0) started for Longwood and earned the pitching win with the first 5.2-innings, yielding just the one hit with three strikeouts and two walks. Hall pitched the final 1.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout and two walks.
