FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped both games of a baseball doubleheader at home to visiting La Salle University of the Atlantic 10 Conference Saturday at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville. The Lancers (2-4) fell to the Explorers (2-2) by scores of 3-0 in game one and 6-1 in game two. LU was led at the plate by sophomore
Justin Lacy|Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker) with three hits, including an RBI double, and freshman
Adam Blankinship|Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) with three hits, including a double. La Salle was led by Marc Schoch with three hits and three RBI, while starting pitchers Kevin Fuqua and Cody Weiss each earned mound wins. Longwood and La Salle will play the three-game weekend series finale on Sunday, February 27, at Bolding Stadium beginning at 12 p.m.
Longwood left nine baserunners on base in game one en route to being shutout as La Salle managed two runs in the sixth, and another run in the seventh. The first run came on an RBI single by Brendan Norton (1-4, RBI) ahead of a sacrifice fly from Eric Kammler (0-3, RBI), while the third run was courtesy a ground-ball RBI by Dan Klem (1-3, RBI). Tony Negrin (2-4) had two hits for the Explorers, and Fuqua (1-1) earned the pitching win with the first 7.0 innings, scattering seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Pat Christiansen (1) got the save with the final inning, yielding a hit with one strikeout.
Senior
Chris Briere|Midlothian (James River) (1-1) went the first 6.0 innings on the mound and took the hard-luck pitching loss for Longwood, allowing just three hits and three runs, each earned, with six strikeouts and three walks. Classmate
Brant Jones|Richmond (Monacan) (2-4) had two hits for the Lancers.
Longwood fell behind 6-0 in the fourth inning of game two and could not muster any significant offense again as La Salle took advantage of timely hitting and six walks allowed by the Lancers. The Explorers scored a run in the second on a run-scoring double by Schoch (2-4, 3 RBI), and added four runs in the third -- all after two outs via a fielding error and three walks along with a two-run single by Schoch and a two-run single by Joe Bennie (1-4, 2 RBI). The visitors made it 6-0 in the fourth on a run-scoring single from Jeff Flax (2-5, RBI). The Lancers plated their lone run of the day in the fourth inning as well as Lacy (2-3, RBI) hit a one-out, opposite field RBI double to left-center that scored freshmen
Matt Dickason|Chesapeake (Indian River) (1-5) who had singled to open the at-bat.
Weiss (1-1) got the pitching win for La Salle with the first 6.0 innings, scattering six hits and one run, earned, with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Bobby Shelton|Forest (Jefferson Forest) (0-2) went the first 3.0 innings on the mound and took the loss for Longwood, allowing three hits and five runs, one earned, with four strikeouts and four walks. Freshman
