FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 15-6 baseball triumph past visiting North Carolina Central University Thursday afternoon at Bolding Stadium in Farmville. The Lancers (14-13) were led by senior
Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) with four hits, including a home run, and three RBI against the winless Eagles (0-29). Longwood will play again this weekend, April 10-11, on the road at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m..
Longwood scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding two runs in both the second and third, four runs in the fifth, and one run in the sixth. North Carolina Central managed three runs in the fourth, two runs in the seventh, and one run in the ninth to provide the final nine-run margin as the Lancers used eight pitchers in the contest.

Robby Newman/Virginia Beach (Salem) (2-4, 2 RBI) had a run-scoring single, and senior
Casey Havers/Thorofare, N.J. (West Deptford) (2-5, RBI) added a sacrifice fly while a run scored on an error as well. In the second, Newman had another RBI single and freshman
Justin Lacy/Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker) (1-1, RBI) contributed a run-scoring double. In the third, senior
Robbie Bailey/Mechanicsville (Hanover) (2-5, RBI) hammered a solo home run to left and senior
Scott Kimble/Spotsylvania (Spotsylvania) (2-5, RBI) added an RBI single as the Lancers led 10-0.
In the fifth, Cerreto had an RBI single before sophomore
Dustin Sollars/Midlothian (Cosby) (1-3, 3 RBI) hit a three-run double off the wall in left-center with the bases loaded. In the sixth, Cerreto blasted a solo home run to left for a 15-3 lead. It was Cerreto's fifth homer to tie Newman for the team lead, and his team-best 41st RBI, while Bailey's shot was his fourth homer this season. Junior
Brant Jones/Richmond (Monacan) (2-5) also had two hits as the hosts had 19 hits in the game.

Troy Dickman/Midlothian (Midlothian) (2-3) took the pitching win for Longwood on the staff day with the first 2.0 innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout and no walks. Senior
Lance Harting/Ballston Spa, N.Y. (Ballston Spa), sophomore
Daniel Johnsen/Arlington (Yorktown), and freshman
Michael Johnson/Chesapeake (Atlantic Shores Christian) each pitched scoreless, hitless innings for the Lancers with no walks as well.
Anthony Wilson (3-5, 2 RBI) had three hits and two RBI for North Carolina Central, while Nate Smith (2-5, RBI) added two hits and an RBI for the Eagles. Smith (0-1) also had the pitching loss for NCCU with the first 2.0 innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs, six earned, with no strikeouts and four walks.
