FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's tennis team defeated North Carolina Central University 4-0 and Winston-Salem State University 6-0 on Sunday to win the 2010 Independent Tournament in Farmville. Senior Mason Davis/Richmond (Collegiate School) was named the Independent Tournament MVP while senior Laura Simon/Barcelona, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) and freshman Marta Pinyol/Barcelona, Spain (IESM Ferran Tallada) earned spots on the All-Tournament team. Longwood finished the season with a 13-8 mark after winning the final three matches of the season.

In singles action against N.C. Central, Simon won at #2 (6-1, 6-4), Davis was victorious at #4 (6-0, 6-0) and freshman Allison Shulman/Richmond (Deep Run) won at #5 (6-2, 6-1). Junior Zsofia Jakab/Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) was unfinished at #1 (5-7, 1-2), Pinyol was ahead at #3 (6-3, 3-0) and freshman Hannah Hill/Portsmouth (Western Branch) was leading at #6 (6-0, 1-0).

In doubles competition, Jakab and Pinyol won at #1 (8-5), Davis and Simon were victorious at #2 (8-4) and Hill and Shulman won at #3 (8-1).

In singles competition against Winston-Salem State, Jakab won at #1 (6-2, 6-1), Simon was victorious at #2 (6-0, 6-0), Pinyol won at #3 (6-0, 6-3), Davis was victorious at #4 (6-0, 6-0) and junior Nasim Moadab/Colonial Heights (Colonial Heights) won at #6 (6-3, 7-5).

In doubles action, Pinyol and Jakab won at #1 (8-4), Davis and Shulman were victorious at #2 (8-0) and Simon and Moadab won at #3 (8-3).

Joining Pinyol and Simon on the All-Tournament team were Winston-Salem State's Chelsea Chatman, N.C. Central's Olesya Palko and Seattle's Katrina Schwab.

Davis finished her senior season with a 16-3 singles record in dual matches, including her last nine matches. Simon finished her season with an 8-11 mark with wins in her last three matches.
