SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Longwood University took a 5-2 baseball victory on the road at Le Moyne College Sunday in Syracuse, New York to complete a three-game weekend series sweep. The Lancers (17-13) won their fourth-straight game, and eighth of last 11 while led by seniors Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) with four hits, including a home run, and Scott Kimble/Spotsylvania (Spotsylvania) with two hits and two RBI against the Dolphins (18-17). Longwood will play again on Tuesday, April 13, at George Mason University of the Colonial Athletic Association in Fairfax beginning at 3 p.m..

Longwood scored two runs in the first and led 2-1 after one inning as Le Moyne scored a run in the first. The Lancers added single runs in each of the third, fourth, and seventh innings to lead 5-1 before the Dolphins added another run in the seventh for the final three-run margin and series sweep to avenge two of three losses to Le Moyne in Farmville March 27-28.

In the first with one-out, junior Brant Jones/Richmond (Monacan) (2-3), senior Casey Havers/Thorofare, N.J. (West Deptford) (1-4), and Cerreto (4-5, RBI) collected consecutive singles to load the bases for Kimble (2-4, 2 RBI) who promptly singled as well to drive in Jones and Havers for the early 2-0 advantage. In the third, Cerreto led off with a solo home run for his team-leading eighth homer while increasing his team-best RBI total to 48, and with four hits on the day is now batting a team-high .462 as well. In the fourth, sophomore Dustin Sollars/Midlothian (Cosby) (1-4) doubled with one out and later crossed the plate on a throwing error. In the seventh, Cerreto doubled to lead-off and also scored later on an error.

Cerreto was 8-13 (.615) in the three-game series with three home runs, two doubles, 7 RBI, four runs, one walk, one hit-by-pitch, and one sacrifice fly -- giving him 19 career sacrifice flies which is a new school-record.
