FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University swept its season-opening baseball series from visiting Binghamton University at Bolding Stadium Sunday afternoon in Farmville, winning the three-game weekend finale 8-5. The Lancers (3-0) once-again rallied from an early deficit with five runs in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring the go-ahead runs in the sixth on a two-out, two-run home run to right field by freshman
Justin Lacy/Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker). The hosts outscored the Bearcats (0-3) 23-14 in the three games while collecting 30 hits. Longwood will play again on Monday, March 1, hosting Coppin State University for a doubleheader at Bolding Stadium beginning at 1 p.m..

Dustin Sollars/Midlothian (Cosby) (0-3) drew a two-out walk before Lacy hit the first home run of his college career over the fence in right field. Bailey followed with another single, stole second base, and later crossed the plate on a throwing error. In the eighth, Jones walked again and later scored on an RBI single by Havers.
Senior
Scott Kimble/Spotsylvania (Spotsylvania) (2-5) added two hits and a stolen base for LU, while Bailey and Jones each stole two bases on the afternoon.
Junior
Troy Dickman/Midlothian (Midlothian) (1-0) started and pitched the first 6.0 innings, scattering nine hits and four runs, three earned, with three strikeouts and one walk to earn his first mound win this season. Sophomore
Mark Montgomery/Williamsburg (Bruton) (1) picked-up his first save with the final 2.2 innings, allowing three hits and one run, earned, with one walk.
Joe Charron (3-4, RBI) had three hits, including a double, for Binghamton, while Corey Taylor (2-4, 2 RBI) added two hits and two RBI for the Bearcats. Morgan Smith (0-1) took the pitching loss in relief with 1.2 innings, yielding five hits and five runs, four earned, with two strikeouts and one walk.
