CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University men's cross country posted 243 points to finish eighth among eight teams Friday at the Panorama Farms Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia and ran at the Panorama Farms in Charlottesville. Duke University took first place with 31 points, and the host Cavaliers had the individual winner in Emil Heineking (23:47), while the Lancers were led by junior
Darren Simpson|Crewe (FUMA) with his time of 26:20 over the 8000 meter course for 58th-place individually in the field of 86. Longwood will not compete again until November 13 at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
Following Simpson for Longwood were sophomore
Sean Flynn|Goodview (Roanoke Catholic) (26:27, 61st), along with juniors
Robert Webb|Williamsburg (Lafayette) (27:55, 80th),
Alex Strittmater|Haymarket (Battlefield) (27:58, 82nd), and
Justin Cooke|Chesterfield (Manchester) (28:35, 84th). Also running was freshman
Kyle Moller|Gainesville (Battlefield) (28:53, 85th). Flynn ran a new collegiate-best time for the 8K, while Simpson, Strittmater, and Moller each ran season-best times for the distance.
Following Duke in the team results were host Virginia (40), Wake Forest (86), Texas Tech (116), East Carolina (144), VCU (147), UNC Charlotte (180), and LU.
