WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University men's cross country totaled 191 points to finish seventh among eight teams Saturday at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge hosted by the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. The University of Tennessee took first place with 41 points, while Norfolk State's Philemon Kimutai won the individual 8K race in 25:29. The Lancers were just five points out of sixth place and will compete again on Friday, October 2, at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, North Carolina beginning at 3:30 p.m..
At William and Mary, Longwood was led by sophomore
Darren Simpson/Crewe (FUMA)?who finished 42nd among the 87 runners who finished the course with his time of 27:39. Simpson was followed by freshman
Sean Flynn/Goodview (Roanoke Catholic) (28:28, 51st), along with sophomores
Alex Strittmater/Haymarket (Battlefield) (28:53, 57th),
Robert Webb/Williamsburg (Lafayette)?(29:30, 61st), and
Justin Cooke/Chesterfield (Manchester) (29:37, 63rd). Also running was senior
Gerard Shaber/Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) (31:00, 73rd).
