FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's tennis team topped George Mason University 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in Farmville. The Lancers claimed the doubles point and four of the singles' flights. Longwood improved to 3-7 on the season while George Mason fell to 7-10. Longwood returns to action on Monday, April 6, when it hosts Stony Brook University at 2 p.m. in Farmville.
The Lancers swept the last four singles' flights with freshman
Jackie Esguerra/Sauk City, Wis. (Prairie du Sac High) winning at #3 (6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-3), senior
Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) winning at #4 (7-5, 6-2), junior
Mason Davis/Richmond (Collegiate) winning at #5 (6-0, 7-5) and sophomore
Nasim Moadab/Colonial Heights (Colonial Heights) winning at #6 (7-5, 6-2). Davis won her first match of the season after being sidelined by injury. Junior
Laura Simon/Barcelona, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) fell at #1 (4-6, 1-6) and sophomore
Zsofia Jakab/Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) lost at #2 (4-6, 0-6).
Longwood won two out of the three doubles' flights to claim the point. Simon and Jakab won at #1 (8-4) and Davis and Melson won at #2 (8-6). Moadab and Esguerra fell at #3 (6-8).
