EDINBURG, Texas - Longwood University split a pair of women's tennis matches at the Women's Independent Tournament, defeating the New Jersey Institute of Technology 4-1 and falling to Seattle University 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in Edinburg, Texas. The Lancers are now 5-11 on the season. Longwood returns to action on Sunday, April 19, facing Chicago State University at 9 a.m. in Edinburg, Texas.

The Lancers claimed three of the singles' flights against NJIT. Junior Laura Simon/Barcelona, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) won at #2 (6-1, 6-0), junior Mason Davis/Richmond (Collegiate) won at #4 (7-5, 6-4) and sophomore Nasim Moadab/Colonial Heights (Colonial Heights) won by default at #6. Freshman Jackie Esguerra/Sauk City, Wis. (Prairie du Sac High) did not finish her match at #3 (6-7 (0), 1-1, unfinished) and senior Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) was unfinished at #5 (5-7, 4-5, unfinished). Sophomore Zsofia Jakab/Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) fell at #1 (2-6, 4-6).

Longwood claimed the doubles point against NJIT. Davis and Melson won at #2 (8-2) and Esguerra and Moadab won by default at #3. Jakab and Simon were trailing at #1 (2-7, unfinished).

The Lancers claimed two singles' flights against Seattle. Simon won at #1 (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) and Jakab won at #2 (6-4, 6-3). Longwood dropped three singles' flights. Davis fell at #4 (4-6, 0-6), Melson lost at #5 (6-4, 6-0) and Moadab fell at #6 (7-5, 3-6, 6-2). Esguerra was leading at #3 (7-6, 2-6, 4-3, unfinished).

The Lancers lost the doubles point. Davis and Melson lost at #2 (4-8) and Moadab and Esguerra lost at #3 (1-8). Jakab and Simon led at #1 (6-5, unfinished).
