FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's tennis team topped Howard University 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in Farmville. Senior Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) won at #4 (7-6 (8), 6-0) as the only senior on the squad. Longwood improved to 4-9 while Howard fell to 5-11. The Lancers return to action on Friday, April 17, at the Women's Independent Tournament in Edinburg, Texas.

In other singles action, junior Laura Simon/Barcelona, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) won at #2 (6-2, 6-1), freshman Jackie Esguerra/Sauk City, Wis. (Prairie du Sac High) won at #4 (3-6, 6-1, 10-5) and junior Mason Davis/Richmond (Collegiate) won at #5 (6-1, 6-2). Sophomore Nasim Moadab/Colonial Heights (Colonial Heights) won by default at #6 while sophomore Zsofia Jakab/Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) fell at #1 (2-6, 4-6).

The Lancers claimed the doubles point. Jakab and Simon won at #1 (9-7) and Esguerra and Moadab won by default at #3. Melson and Davis fell at #2 (8-5).
