BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Longwood University split a baseball doubleheader at Gardner-Webb University of the Big South Conference Sunday in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, winning the nightcap 8-4 after dropping the opener 10-9.  Senior Jonathan Quigley/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) led the Lancers (15-9) during the two games with six hits and six RBI.  Longwood will play again this Wednesday, April 1, hosting Radford University of the Big South Conference as well at Lancer Stadium in Farmville beginning at 3 p.m..  Admission is free to all Longwood baseball games at Lancer Stadium.
   
In the second game, Longwood scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the third, one in the fourth, one in the sixth, and three runs in the seventh inning.  Gardner-Webb managed one run in the second, two runs in the third, and one run in the fourth.  In the first, junior Scott Kimble/Spotsylvania (Spotsylvania) (2-3) drew a lead-off walk and later scored on a ground-ball double play.  In the third, sophomore Brant Jones/Richmond (Monacan) (1-2, RBI) and junior Casey Havers/Thorofare, N.J. (West Deptford) (2-3, RBI) each provided RBI singles.  In the fourth, junior David Smiy Jr./Chesterfield (Matoaca) (1-3, RBI) led-off with a solo home run to right field.  In the sixth, Quigley (2-4, 3 RBI) had an RBI single.  In the seventh, Quigley added a two-run double while freshman Richie Palase/Staten Island, N.Y. (Moore Catholic) (0-2) scored on a passed ball after opening the inning with a walk.
   
Senior right-hander Paul Heidler II/Warrenton (Notre Dame Academy) (3-1) earned the pitching win for the Lancers with the first 6.0 innings, allowing just three hits along with three earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Freshman right-hander Mark Montgomery/Williamsburg (Bruton) pitched the final 1.0 scoreless inning, yielding no hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
   
In the first game, Longwood led 6-1 after three innings with a run in both the first and second innings, four runs in the third, while adding three more runs in the fourth to lead 9-1 before the Bulldogs rallied for the win with one run in the third and nine runs in the fourth inning.  Quigley (4-4, 3 RBI) led the Lancers with four hits and three RBI, including his team-leading fifth home run this spring on a solo shot to center field in the second. 

In the first, junior Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) (2-4, RBI) had an RBI single.  In the third, Havers (2-4, RBI) added an RBI double, Quigley had an RBI single, and freshman Robby Newman/Virginia Beach (Salem) (1-4, 2 RBI) provided a two-run single.  In the fourth, Quigley and Smiy (2-4, RBI) each had RBI singles while Kimble (0-3, RBI) drove in a run, Palase (2-3) after a lead-off triple, with a ground ball out.

Junior right-hander Lance Harting/Ballston Spa, N.Y. (Ballston Spa) (2-4) took the pitching loss for the Lancers with 3.0 innings of relief, allowing four hits and four earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Senior right-hander John Walker II/Alexandria (West Potomac) started on the mound and pitched the first 3.0 innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs with no walks and no strikeouts.
