GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Longwood University women's tennis team defeated North Carolina A&T 6-1 on Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina. Longwood improves to 2-5 and the Aggies fall to 2-7. The Lancers return to action on Friday, March 27, in Washington, D.C., where they will face Georgetown University at 2 p.m.
The Lancers claimed five of the six singles flights. Junior
Laura Simon/Barcelona, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) claimed the #2 singles (6-1, 6-1), freshman
Jackie Esguerra/Sauk City, Wis. (Prairie du Sac High) won at #3 (6-3, 6-1), senior
Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) won at #4 (6-4, 7-6 (6)) and sophomore
Nasim Moadab/Colonial Heights (Colonial Heights) won at #5 (6-2, 6-1). Senior
Eileen Sullivan/Toano (Nansemond Suffolk Academy) won by default at #6. Sophomore
Zsofia Jakab/Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) fell at #1 (6-2, 3-6, 6-10).
Longwood swept the three doubles flights with Simon and Melson winning at #1 (8-2) and Jakab and Esguerra winning at #2 (8-4). Moadab and Sullivan won by default at #3.
