BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Longwood University swept a baseball doubleheader at Campbell University Tuesday afternoon at Taylor Field in Buies Creek, North Carolina, winning the first game 10-7 and the second game 8-7.  Junior David Smiy Jr./Chesterfield (Matoaca) [6-8, RBI) had six hits on the day to lead the Lancers who improved to 10-6 overall with six-straight wins.  Kevin Nelson [4-9] had four hits for the Camels (8-6).  Longwood will play again this weekend, March 14-15, at Coppin State University for a three-game series in Baltimore, Maryland beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 3 p.m..

Longwood scored two runs in the first inning of the opener on an RBI single from junior Casey Havers/Thorofare, N.J. (West Deptford) (2-5, RBI) and a sacrifice fly by senior Jonathan Quigley/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) (2-4, HR, 3 RBI).  Campbell tied it with two runs in the second before the Lancers added a run in the third on a lead-off home run to left field by junior Scott Kimble/Spotsylvania (Spotsylvania) (2-6, 2 RBI), his second of the year.  The Camels again answered with a run in the third but LU scored two more runs in the fifth when Quigley added an RBI double and Smiy (4-5, RBI) had an RBI single.  Longwood scored another run in the sixth to lead 6-3 as sophomore Brant Jones/Richmond (Monacan) (2-5, RBI) contributed an RBI double.  Campbell tied it again with three runs in the sixth, however, the visitors tallied four runs in the seventh to lead 10-6 after a one-out solo home run from Quigley, his second of the year, along with a two-out, two-run double by freshman Richie Palase/Staten Island, N.Y. (Moore Catholic) (2-5, 2 RBI) and an RBI single by Kimble.  CU added a final run in the ninth inning for the final margin.  Freshman Robby Newman/Virginia Beach (Salem) (3-4) had three hits, while junior Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) (2-4) added two hits as well.

Freshman Mark Montgomery/Williamsburg (Bruton) (2-0) earned the pitching win with 4.0 innings of middle relief, allowing three hits and three earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts.  Sophomore Troy Dickman/Midlothian (Midlothian) had tossed the first 3.0 innings, scattering six hits and three earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts.

Longwood scored two runs in the first inning of the nightcap as well on a one-out, two-run home run to left field by Cerreto (3-4, 2 RBI), his second of the year.  Campbell scored a run in the first as well before the Lancers added three runs in the second on the strength of an RBI single from freshman Mike Stancik/Ashburn (Stone Bridge) (1-2, RBI) along with a two-run triple to right field by Jones (1-4, 2 RBI).  The Camels made it 5-2 with a run in the third and it remained that way until the hosts scored three runs in the sixth to tie it at 5-5.  The visitors answered with three runs in the seventh to lead 8-5 after a two-run single from freshman Dustin Sollars/Midlothian (Cosby) (1-1, 2 RBI) and an RBI ground-ball out by Newman (1-4, RBI).  CU made it interesting with two runs in the seventh to close to within 8-7 but it stood that way for the road triumph and sweep of the twinbill.  Kimble (3-4) also had three hits in the second game, while Havers (2-4) and Smiy (2-3) each added two hits.

Junior Lance Harting/Ballston Spa, N.Y. (Ballston Spa) (2-3) earned the pitching win with the final 1.1 innings of relief, allowing five hits and three earned runs with one walk and two strikeouts.  Senior Paul Heidler II/Warrenton (Notre Dame Academy) had tossed 3.1 innings of relief, scattering three hits and two earned runs with one walk and five strikeouts.
