FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 7-4 baseball decision to the University of Richmond of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tuesday afternoon at Lancer Stadium in Farmville.  Junior 
David Smiy Jr./Chesterfield (Matoaca) (2-4) and sophomore 
Brant Jones/Richmond (Monacan) (2-4) led the Lancers (2-3) with two hits each.  Ryan Metzroth (3-5, 2 RBI) led the Spiders (4-0), who rallied from behind with four runs in the ninth inning, with three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI.  Longwood play again Wednesday, February 25, hosting Old Dominion University of the Colonial Athletic Association at Lancer Stadium beginning at 2:30 p.m..  Admission is free to all Longwood baseball games.
    
Longwood fell behind 2-0 in the first inning as Metzroth's first double plated a run before he later scored unearned on a fielding error in the outfield.  The Lancers scored a run in the first as well on a sacrifice fly to left field by junior 
Casey Havers/Thorofare, N.J. (West Deptford) (1-2, RBI).  The Spiders made it 3-1 in the third inning on another RBI double from Metzroth.  Longwood added a run in the third as well when Jones reached on a throwing error and crossed the plate on an RBI double from junior 
Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) (1-2, RBI).  The Lancers took a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning with two runs as freshman 
Ian Harvey/Midlothian (James River) pinch-ran for classmate 
Matt Gwaltney/Chesterfield (Matoaca) (1-1) who had singled to lead-off before Harvey would later score on a wild pitch.  Senior 
Jon Quigley/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) (1-4, RBI) was hit-by-a-pitch after a pair of walks loaded the bases.
    
Richmond earned the road win with four runs on four hits in the top of the ninth inning, including RBI singles from Adam McConnell (1-4, RBI) and Cameron Brown (2-5, RBI) while the other two runs scored on wild pitches.  Billy Barber (1-0) earned the mound win with 1.2 innings of late scoreless relief, allowing no hits with one strikeout, while Brian Alas (2)?picked-up his second save with the final 1.0 shutout inning, yielding two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
    
Junior 
Lance Harting/Ballston Spa, N.Y. (Ballston Spa) (0-2) took the pitching loss with the final 1.0 inning on the mound, allowing the four hits and four earned runs with one walk and two strikeouts.  Freshman 
Mark Montgomery/Williamsburg (Bruton) had pitched the first 6.0 innings, yielding just four hits and three runs-two earned, with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Sophomore 
Troy Dickman/Midlothian (Midlothian) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of middle relief, allowing just one walk.
