Longwood Welcomes Atlantic Sun's Campbell University To Willett Hall Tuesday Night At 7 p.m.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University will host Campbell University of the Atlantic Sun Conference in men's basketball action Tuesday night, December 22, at 7 p.m. in Willett Hall (1,807) on-campus in Farmville.  The Lancers and Fighting Camels are meeting for the fourth-time overall since 2007, and for the first time since February 13, 2008.  Longwood (2-9) is coached by seventh-year head coach Mike Gillian, and will be led by sophomore center Antwan Carter who is averaging 15.8 points and 7.3 rebounds.  CU (6-3) is coached by seventh-year head coach Robbie Laing and is led by senior forward Jonathan Rodriguez (16.1 points, 9.1 rebounds).  Tickets remain and will be available at the Willett Hall Ticket Office or by calling 434.395.2138.

Series History
Longwood and Campbell have played three times previously in the sport of men's basketball.  The Fighting Camels have a 2-1 edge in the young series, winning the first two games by scores of 88-80 at CU during 2006-07 and 82-80 at LU during 2007-08.  The Lancers returned the favor that season, winning 83-80 at CU as the two schools have played each other to three close, high-scoring contests overall.  Billy Robinson Jr. came off the bench to score 17 points and grab six rebounds two years ago to lead Longwood, while Kevin Swecker added 13 points. Campbell was led by Jonathan Rodriguez with 28 points and seven rebounds, while Kyle Vejraska had 17 points.

A Look At Campbell
Campbell is coached by seventh-year head coach Robbie Laing.  The Fighting Camels of the Atlantic Sun Conference have a record of 6-3 after their 73-57 home win past A-Sun opponent Jacksonville this past Saturday (12.19).  Campbell is led by senior Jonathan Rodriguez (16.1 points, 9.1 rebounds), a four-year starter who has attained phenomenal totals of 1,776 career points and 906 career rebounds.  Others expected in the lineup are seniors William Kossangue (7.8 points) and Kyle Vejraska (7.7 points), junior Junard Hartley (5.8 points, 4.3 assists), along with sophomore Lorne Merthie (8.6 points).

A Look At Longwood
Longwood is 2-9 after its 87-69 home win past NAIA Virginia-Wise last Monday (12.14).  A scheduled game against Virginia Intermont this past Saturday (12.19) was postponed and re-scheduled for February 11 (7 p.m.).  The Lancers are led by sophomore Antwan Carter who has averaged 15.8 points and 7.3 rebounds off the bench this year, and redshirt-senior Dana Smith who is averaging 15.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.  Also in the lineup are seniors #E.J. Dawson# (3.5 points, 3.2 assists), Billy Robinson Jr. (7.3 points, 5.5 rebounds), and Kevin Swecker (8.4 points, 19 3FG), along with sophomore Martiz Washington (7.2 points, 19 3FG).

Home Sweet Home
Longwood is 36-19 (.655) at home in Willett Hall over the past four-plus seasons, including a 2-2 mark this year following a 13-2 home record last season.  The Lancers were 7-5 during 2007-08, 8-4 during 2005-06, while 6-6 during 2006-07.  Longwood is 240-128 (.652) all-time (29-plus seasons) in Willett Hall.
