SOUTH PADRE ISLAND INVITATIONAL GAME NOTES (PDF)
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas -- Longwood Univeristy will play Bethune-Cookman University on Friday, November 27, beginning at 1 p.m. in the third round of the South Padre Island Invitational at the South Padre Island Convention Centre in Texas. The Lancers (0-5) are coached by seventh-year head coach Mike Gillian and led by 6-5, 230-pound redshirt-senior captain Dana Smith/Woodbridge (C.D. Hylton) (14.6 points, 6.8 rebounds). The Wildcats (1-3) are coached by eighth-year head coach Clifford Reed, Jr. and led by sophomore C.J. Reed (17.5 points, 4.0 assists). It's the first of two games on South Padre Island as Longwood will play either Chattanooga or Texas-Pan American on Saturday, Nov. 28, at either 12:30 or 3 p.m.. This weekend's two games to conclude the South Padre Island Invitational will be streamed live on the Internet via PPV ($8 per game) on the FOX College Sports Broadband Network.
Series History
Longwood has never played either Bethune-Cookman or Chattanooga previously in the sport of men's basketball. The Lancers have played Texas-Pan American two times previously, splitting two games against the Broncs last season, winning 77-61 in Farmville (2.11.09) before falling 86-82 in Edinburg, Texas (2.14.09).
A Look At Bethune-Cookman
Bethune-Cookman (1-3) is coached by eighth-year head coach Clifford Reed, Jr. (88-141). The Wildcats lost their first two games of the South Padre Island Invitational on the road at Old Dominion (69-38, 11.15) and Mississippi State (67-51, 11.21). Bethune-Cookman is led by C.J. Reed (17.5) and Alexander Starling (11.8). The Wildcats are averaging 53.5 points, and allowing 67.0 points.
A Look At Chattanooga
Chattanooga (2-2) is coached by sixth-year head coach John Shulman (92-74). The Mocs lost their first two games of the South Padre Island Invitational on the road at Richmond (75-49, 11.22) and Missouri (99-56, 11.24). Chattanooga is led by Ridge McKeither (13.3), Josh Odem (11.5), and Keegan Bell (10.5). The Mocs are averaging 74.2 points, and allowing 78.0 points.
A Look At Texas-Pan American
Texas-Pan American (0-5) is coached by first-year head coach Ryan Marks (0-5). The Broncs lost their first two games of the South Padre Island Invitational on the road at Missouri (100-44, 11.22) and Mississippi State (75-50, 11.24). UTPA is led by Luis Valera (8.4) and Jared Maree (7.4). The Wildcats are averaging 56.6 points, and allowing 81.8 points.
A Look At Longwood
Longwood (0-5) lost its first two games of the South Padre Island Invitational on the road at Old Dominion (98-59, 11.17) and Richmond (65-52, 11.24). The Lancers are led by sophomore Antwan Carter (15.4) and Dana Smith (14.6). Longwood is averaging 64.0 points, and allowing 79.8 points. The Lancers are playing their fifth and sixth games away from Farmville during the first 15 days of the season.
