DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Longwood University field hockey fell at Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference foe Davidson College 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in Davidson, North Carolina. The Lancers were led by junior Lauren van de Kamp/Midlothian (Trinity Episcopal) with two goals, one on a penalty stroke. The Lancers wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina at 1 p.m..

Davidson (6-11, 2-4 NorPac) scored first in the 14th minute but Longwood (8-9, 3-2 NorPac) answered back two minutes later when van de Kamp scored on a penalty stroke to tie the match at 1-1 in the 16th minute. Neither team would score the rest of the first half.

Longwood pulled ahead 2-1 in the 54th minute when van de Kamp snuck down by the post and flipped the ball into the cage. The Wildcats answered just over one minute later when Hannah English tied the match at 2-2 on a shot from the top of the circle. Davidson scored the game winning goal in the 68th minute on an Ellie Szykowny tip off an English pass. The Wildcats added an insurance goal in the 70th minute to make the final score 4-2.

“We are obviously disappointed with the loss,” said Longwood head coach Iain Byers. “We are getting close to the end of the season. We need to play hard tomorrow to finish .500 in the regular season, which is something I know we can do.”

The match was very even, with Davidson narrowly edging Longwood in shots (15-13) and penalty corners (8-6). Both goalkeepers had five saves.
