COMPLETE RESULTS
BOONE, N.C. -- Longwood University men's cross country scored 72 points to finish in a second-place tie among six teams in the Open Division Friday afternoon at the Blue Ridge Open run at the Don Kennedy Trail at State Farm in Boone, North Carolina. Lynchburg College took first place with its 36 points in the 8K race, while LC's Ryan Van Alstine won the Open race with his time of 26:32. The Lancers tied with a team from Wake Forest University, and were led by sophomore
Darren Simpson/Crewe (FUMA) with his time of 26:39 to place second among the 80 runners. Longwood will not compete again until November 14 at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Kentucky beginning at 11:40 a.m..
Simpson was followed by freshman
Sean Flynn/Goodview (Roanoke Catholic) (26:57, 5th), along with sophomores
Alex Strittmater/Haymarket (Battlefield) (27:25, 14th),
Robert Webb/Williamsburg (Lafayette)?(28:22, 31st), and
Justin Cooke/Chesterfield (Manchester) (29:14, 49th). Also running was senior
Gerard Shaber/Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) (29:47, 59th).
High Point University won the 19-team Gold Division with its 76 points, edging runners-up Davidson College (77), while unattached runner Jesse Cherry took first place in the 8K race with his time of 24:09 among the 154 runners.
