Longwood Falls To UNC Wilmington and VCU At VCU 4x1 Invitational

Nasim Moadab came close to earning the Lancers a point against VCU

RICHMOND, Va. - The Longwood University women's tennis team falls to 0-2 on the season after falling to both UNC Wilmington and Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) on Saturday at the VCU 4x1 Invitational. The Lancers dropped their dual with UNCW in the morning by the score 0-5, while then falling to VCU later in the day by the same score. Senior Laura Simon/Barcelona, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) came close to earning the Lancers a point in the UNCW game, falling 4-6, 4-6 in the #1 singles position to Kayla Scwenk. Longwood returns to the court on Wednesday, January 28 at 6 p.m. in Blacksburg taking on Virginia Tech.
   
Against UNC Wilmington sophomore Zsofia Jakab/Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) fell to Priscilla Roberts from the #2 singles spot (1-6, 1-6), while senior Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) fell to Christina Lee in the #3 spot (0-6, 0-6). Freshman Jackie Esgueria/Sauk City, Wis. (Prarie du Sac) fell in straight sets to Chelsea Kahle in the #4 singles position (2-6, 0-6). Sophomore Nasim Moadab/Colonial Heights (Colonial Heights) and Eileen Sullivan faced Lauren Isenhonr and Hailey Collins for the double point, falling 0-6, 0-6.
   
The Lancers return to the court later in the day to face off with the 4x1 host team VCU. Simon once again led things off for the Lancers playing in the #1 spot but was unable to squeeze out a victory falling 0-6, 2-6 to Ana Bara. Playing in the #2 spot again was Jakab falling to Laura Burns (1-6, 0-6), while Esguerra moved up to the #3 position where she fell to Kateryna Yergina 0-6, 1-6. Moadab traded in her spot for the doubles point against VCU for a chance to face Lisa Dyke one-on-one. Moadab put in a fight from the #4 singles spot but was unable to pull past Dyke, falling 4-6, 4-6. In doubles Melson and Sullivan tried to get past Leanchuk and Bunea but were unable to do so falling 1-6, 0-6.
