LEXINGTON, Va. -- Longwood University men's cross country totaled 26 points to finish first among four teams Friday evening at the VMI?Season Opener in Lexington. The Lancers were led by senior
Matt Gordon/Annandale (Bishop Ireton) with his time of 17:14 to finish third among 34 collegiate runners in the 5K (3.1 mile) race at the Virginia Horse Center. Longwood will compete again September 13 at the Navy Invitational hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
In Lexington, Gordon was followed by senior
Evan Kearney/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) (17:16, 5th), junior
Ross Roberts/Powhatan (Powhatan) (17:25, 6th), along with freshmen
Darren Simpson/Crewe (FUMA) (17:30, 8th) and
Robert Webb/Williamsburg (Lafayette) (17:51, 10th).
Also running for the Lancers were freshmen
Justin Cooke/Chesterfield (Manchester)?(18:11, 13th),
Alex Strittmater/Haymarket (Battlefield)?(18:18, 16th), and
Forrest Williams/Chesapeake (Hickory) (19:58, 24th).
