Kelvin Davis (Baseball, 1985-88) was the 1988 Virginia College Player of the Year after a senior season in which he hit .511 with 14 home runs, 57 RBI and 21 stolen bases. That senior campaign capped a four-year career in which the Lynchburg, Va., native hit a blistering .419, which broke the school record at the time and still ranks second on Longwood's all-time batting average list nearly three decades later.
Â
A three-time All-South Atlantic Region pick, Davis helped the Lancers compile a four-year mark of 126-48-1 during his tenure with three 30-win seasons and an appearance in the 1987 South Atlantic Regional. He amassed 209 hits, 167 RBI, 34 home runs and 44 stolen bases over his 152-game career, including the breakout senior campaign in which he led the team with 14 home runs, six triples, 57 RBI, 52 runs and 71 hits. Davis went on to play professionally in the Kansas City Royals system after being selected in the 24th round of the 1988 draft.
Â
He was the second Lancer draft pick in program history, following former teammate Frankie Watson, who was a seventh-round pick that same year.
