The name of Buddy Bolding (Baseball head coach, 1978-2013) is synonymous with Longwood baseball, having built the program from the ground up and maintained the mantle of head coach until his retirement after the 2013 season. The namesake of Longwood baseball's home field, Bolding amassed a 953-544-4 record during his career as a Lancer and took Longwood to the Division II College World Series in 1982 and 1991 and to six NCAA Division II Regionals. His 953 career wins are more than any coach in Longwood's 100-plus years of athletics history.

During his 35-year tenure, Bolding coached five All-Americans, nine Major League Baseball Draft Picks and six Virginia College Players of the Year. The program also produced four Academic All-Americans during under his oversight, the most of any Longwood program.

Bolding now joins five other Longwood baseball honorees in the Longwood Athletics Hall of Fame: Michael Tucker (Class of 2005), Dennis Hale (Class of 2007), the 1991 baseball team (Class of 2011), Kelvin Davis (Class of 2016) and the 1982 baseball team (Class of 2016).
