Baseball senior right-hander Travis Burnette fired the first 7.2 innings of a 2-0 shutout over Hofstra in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Buddy Bolding Stadium. The weekend starter scattered six hits over his nearly eight scoreless frames without issuing a walk to lead Longwood to its first win of a three-game sweep of the visiting Pride.

Burnette, who totaled 9.1 innings without allowing an earned run during the week, has been among the Big South's top starters through the first month of the season. He owns a 2.22 ERA over his first five appearances while striking out 22 batters and walking just seven in 28.1 innings. Longwood has won each of his last three starts.
