Name
: Meghan Magee

Meghan is a senior on the Longwood women's soccer team, a criminology major and an intern in the Longwood athletics department business office.  This year Meghan and her teammates helped the women's soccer program win the inaugural Lancer Giving Madness initiative, an online micro-giving campaign. The team generated 101 donations in just one week, helping them earn $1,750 in matching funds for their team.

What stands out so far about your experience as a student-athlete at Longwood?
What has stood out about my experience as a student-athlete so far is the great group of girls I have had the pleasure of not only playing with, but also becoming part of such a close-knit group of friends. What has also stood out is the overall support I have received from my teammates, coaches, and athletics staff. I know I always have their support whether it is in an athletic, academic, or personal endeavor.

This year you and many of your teammates supported the women's soccer team during Lancer Giving Madness.  Why was it important to you to make a gift during that event?
I think my teammates and I felt it was important to support our team for our upcoming season. We knew that a little could go a long way, and having a little extra money in our team bank account could help pay for some of the expenses that come along with being a Division I program. It also gives us the ability to have some flexibility with our team budget.

What would you say to your fellow student-athletes or alumni about the importance of giving back?
I would say giving back is important because every athlete or alumni knows what it is like to want to have a little more for their team. Whether it is t-shirts, sweatshirts, or maybe even an occasional "splurge meal" after a game, we've all wished we could have a little extra. Giving back is also important because Longwood University athletics has provided so many opportunities for us as athletes and a few dollars here and there supports the department that has/had supported you through your four years.
