Lancers Drop Road Match at #13 Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Junior goalkeeper Sophie Mooldijk made a career-high 24 saves, but Longwood field hockey suffered an 8-0 loss at No. 13 Liberty on Sunday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va.

How It Happened
  • The Lancers and Flames went back and forth in the first quarter with Liberty (4-2) scoring in the first. Mia Santana Goeke scored the first goal of the day at 11:36. Mooldijk kept the deficit at 1-0, making three saves in the quarter. 
  • At the 18:27 mark, Pia Lapichino pushed the lead to 2-0 with a goal off an assist from Julieta Tornati. Mooldijk made seven more saves in the second to keep the deficit at 2-0. 
  • At 35:27, Clarissa Ludicello extended the lead to 3-0 off of a rebound. Six minutes later, Alexia Guedouar found a feed in the shooting arc from Lapichino to make increase the margin to 4-0. Josefina Tomasi hammered one home on the left side at 42:27 to increase the lead to 5-0. 
  • At 49:09, Ludicello started off the fourth quarter with a goal, then notched a hat trick at 57:35 to bring the score to 7-0. Tornati earned a penalty stroke to wrap up the scoring with an 8-0 Liberty win. 
  • Mooldijk made a career-high 24 saves, making 14 of the 24 in the second half. Her save total is the second highest in a Division I game this season.
